Prior to Tsinghua University, I worked as an Associate Professor and Assistant Chair at School of Communication and Design at Sun Yat-sen University ( May 2017 - Mar 2021) and a Lecturer of Communication at Macau University of Science and Technology (Sep 2016 - May 2017).
I have received my Ph.D in Communication Research in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore in 2017 and a MSc by Research in Sociology from Edinburgh University, United Kindom in 2012. I also received a B.A. in Music and Advertising from Xiamen University, China in 2009.
I have published about 40 research papers in SSCI-indexed journals such as Risk Analysis, New Media & Society, Environmental Communication, Health Communication, Journalism and Mass Communication Quaterly, Journal of Health Communication, Internet Research, AIDS Care- Psychological and Socio-medical Aspects of AIDS/HIV, Computers & Education, International Journal of Communication, Internet Research, Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, Chinese Journal of Communication.
Research Interests
My expertise lies in health communication, environmental communication, media psychology, and social media. My overarching research goal is to develop theory-driven communication strategies for health and environmental risk management. Specifically, I have mostly utilized quantitative research methods and computational methods to examine the effects of media including messages and technological features on shaping public opinions, knowledge, risk perception, and subsequent behaviors related to a variety of health and environmental topics, ranging from cancer prevention, smoking cessation, the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination, misinformation debunking, to climate change.

I am an Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Communication and Associate Director of Center for Global Development and Health Communication at Tsinghua University, China. I serve as the Associate Editor of the Journal, Environmental Communication (SSCI-indexed Journal) and the Editorial Board Member of Journal of Media Psychology(SSCI-indexed Journal) . I am also the Teaching Chair, Mass Communication and Society, AEJMC as well as Principal Data Scientist, Guangzhou Key Research Center of Big Data and Public Communication. My papers have won some prestigious Best Published Article of the Year Awards and Top Faculty Paper Awards from professional associations such as the ICA and AEJMC conferences. I was awarded a Distinguished Young Scholar award by Tsinghua University in 2021.
